Thursday Progress Update | The Mission Hall and Mission System

Hey everyone, it’s Julian here with the latest from OgreWare! It’s Thursday, so it’s time for a progress update on what OgreWare has been working on. We are, of course, still discussing the beta version of Calling All Heroes, OgreWare’s debut game – if you haven’t played it yet, click here!

Currently the focus of OgreWare’s work is building the UI framework for the Mission system, an integral part of what will be the actual gameplay of Calling All Heroes. This interface will allow you to send your Troops on Missions – essentially assigning them to go out into various environments to gather treasure and…Materials! Yes, we’ll finally be able to get more Materials and build the next buildings and unlock more Troops!

One mechanic I’m looking forward to using is the fact that each of the Troops actually has advantages and disadvantages in various environments, so different Troops will have an improved chance of success on different missions. Think kind of like a type advantage in Pokémon – the Imp would do well in a Cave mission, but not out in the open Meadow.

All of this will be unlocked via the Mission Hall, a special building that you’ll be able to build when the next update comes out. Unlike the other buildings, the Mission Hall doesn’t unlock a troop – it unlocks the ability to send your Troops on Missions. Which is going to be pretty important going forward, as we’ll need more and more Materials for future buildings!
