Good afternoon, and welcome to another OgreWare Progress Report! I’m pleased to report that OgreWare has been hard at work on the Mission system for Calling All Heroes. Today we’re going to talk a little about the importance of that process.
Missions in CAH are not just side quests. Although they arguably could be termed as such, they are also the only way to get Materials, a resource available only in limited amounts in early versions, which really flummoxed me when I first played through the beta.
Missions allow your Troops to go off into various environments and find rewards like Gold, Materials, chances at Treasure, and generous amounts of Troop Experience. You essentially loan your Troops away for a few minutes or hours (or days, in later levels) and later get them back along with bonus resources. This is the main mechanic of idle games, a category that also includes things like the Facebook game phenomenon, FarmVille. (If you select a few options and then put your phone back in your pocket for a few hours while timers run, you’re probably playing an idle game.)
Right now, OgreWare is working on the Mission UI (user interface) and setting up the various types of missions. One interesting thing I pried out of them is that not all Missions are created equal: Most are randomly generated and could be called “side quests,” but a few have specific pre-set timers, special rewards, unique names – and they guide you through the actual story of Caling All Heroes. These “Storyline Missions” pop up from time to time, but they are relatively rare – grab them when you can!
The Mission system will be up and functional soon, but until then, feel free to click here to play the CAH 0.5 beta. And until next time, have a great day!
