This week, we technically checked the box on our tasks – but just technically. Merrix’s goals included implementing a leveling system, and the “bones” of a leveling system are there: you can get XP from killing monsters; get enough, you level up; level up, you get stat points, which you can spend to improve your stats. But there’s not much beyond that.
So, did we implement a leveling system? Technically yes. Is it the leveling system we want, with the depth and features we’d imagined? We have to admit, no.
We check in weekly, so this process of self-evaluation / critique is pretty routine now. And fortunately, it’s not always a “technically yes.” Often it’s a “hell yeah.” But I think it’s worth it to be real about those weeks when we just didn’t manage anything beyond the bare minimum.
On the art side, I’ve been revising my icon-drawing style. For a very long time, I was, frankly, scared to draw lineless art – I just felt like my process depended so much on the linework that I’d never have much success with it. This month I’m proving myself wrong.

Last week I talked some about this brave new style journey, and it’s still taking forever, but I’m continuing to feel better and better about it. I’m excited to keep sharing it with you.
That’s about all for this week. We’ll be back next Sunday with more on this developing story, so be sure to tune in. Thanks for following along!
