It’s time for a Progress Report, people! Let’s take a look at what OgreWare has been up to lately.
Calling All Heroes, OgreWare’s current game project, will soon have a Prestige system. (And if you’re confused by that term, check out my previous blog explaining it.) And while the system itself isn’t quite in yet, progress is definitely being made: The buffs are in place, and all that’s really left is to get the UI for it working, and, in OgreWare’s words, “make sure nothing explodes.”
Phases like this are actually very important not only for games, but for many other forms of media. What I mean is, when you’re working on a project that is getting close to or is moving towards completion, and you come to a part that is absolutely crucial but is sort of the last big battle before victory in the project, it’s tempting – incredibly tempting – to do a rush job of it and just get the damn thing done.
I’ve done this myself, in my own projects, from time to time – less so now, but in the past, my comics were absurdly rushed, and I always did a crummy job on the last few pages because, well, they were the last few pages and I wanted to be done! (I possess virtues; patience is not one of them.) The allure of the finish line can be fatal for projects like this, though, and though it is tempting, it must be ignored in favor of focusing on the current stage and making sure it’s up to standards.
So, having this past experience myself, I am increasingly impressed with OgreWare’s patience as they focus on making sure the Calling All Heroes Prestige system is as awesome as the rest of its features. And, of course, it will be.
