It’s been exciting to watch OgreWare working on this latest feature, and today I’m happy to announce the Oracle Tent, a new building that unlocks the ability to watch ads.
“Ability to watch ads? You have to unlock that?”
Well, that was actually an intentional choice on OgreWare’s part. You may have noticed that Calling All Heroes never forces you to watch an ad – there are no banner ads, no interstitial (between screens/scenes) ads, and no ads that automatically play at any point. There is, in fact, no way to see an ad unless you ask to!
But why would one ask to? It’s not just a donation or a way to “tip the creator.” No, these ads do much more than that.
When you enter the Oracle Tent, you’ll have the option to watch an ad to get a temporary buff – a positive effect that alters stats in a beneficial way. There is a wide selection of buffs, from “increasing income of various types“ to “increasing mission success chance,” and you can enter the Oracle Tent at any time to get one. There is also the handy feature of a list of current buffs, so you can always check what’s currently in effect.
The buffs do stack, and if you get enough of them running, you may have some pretty amazing effects, like free buildings, or nonexistent Material costs.
The Oracle can also appear outside of her Tent – she may sweep in at opportune moments, offering you the option to watch an ad to change your fate. So when you win a mission, you may have the option to double your winnings – or when you fail a mission, you may have the option to rewrite fate and save your Troops.
As you upgrade the Oracle Tent building, it’ll change how the Oracle Tent functions – increasing either the range of buff types, duration of buffs, times that the Oracle appears outside of the Oracle Tent, and finally, likelihood that she will appear.
Personally, I love the idea of the Oracle – from a gameplay standpoint, I think it’s fair and a great option; from a story standpoint, I just love the idea of a mystical fortuneteller.
If you had the chance to change your fate…would you?
